looking for work in 2009 is tough work. as of last Friday unemployment reached an all time high at 10.1% in California, the highest in 26 years. You hear bites on the news every night from highly qualified and educated unemployed workers out there in the market for a job after being let go from their company.
in my situation, it's been 9 months of diligent searching, refining my resume, searching job boards, researching companies, and through this process there have only been a few phone calls and interviews for work.
but, finally the light has gone off, it's not what I've been that will lead me to a new job, but it's what i'm going to be. I'm learning how to reinvest, reinvent, plug-in, reach-out, research, and discover what it is that i want from work period. (and it's not just an income, although that's high on the list, OK it's first on the list)
when my process was just starting a few months back, i met someone at a restaurant in San Francisco who encouraged me by saying, "you have to stop saying to yourself what you can't do, and start realizing what you can do". everyday I'm understanding that statement a little bit more. here's to all of us out there working to find a job! may we not be a statistic for much longer! vlb
